18 Jun SECOND ANNUAL COLORCOMM HOSTS TRACY WILSON MOURNING AND HONEY SHINE, INC.
Miami, FL—On Friday, July 31, 2015 Honey Shine, Inc.’s mentees were welcomed to the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne by the women of the ColorComm Conference. The ColorComm Conference (shortened as C2) is designed as a business conference and retreat for women of color in communications. Programs and topics were presented by leaders in the communications industry, and designed to provide an open forum for women in the field to come together to address current events and issues. This year’s conference featured powerhouse keynote speakers such as Gloria Steinem, Lisa Ling and Vivian Hurtado, to name a few. Over 300 of the country’s leading communications professionals, most of whom were women, participated in this year’s ColorComm. As attendees networked, mentored and enjoyed sessions aimed at their professional growth, they also took time out of their busy conference schedules to sit down with a select few of Honey Shine’s “Honey Bugs.”
The Honey Shine mentoring session allowed the girls from the program to interact and engage with a panel of ColorComm attendees lead by PR Guru Marvet Britto, who was honored at the conference Awards Dinner. During the session, Honey Bugs heard various accounts of what it means to be a woman of color and to rise above challenges in the professional world. Honey Bugs posed questions to the panel about time management, procrastination and figuring out one’s passion. Britto advised the girls to “Wake up to go to life, not just to work.”
Following the session, the girls were invited to attend the conference’s Signature Luncheon with world-renown social activist and writer Gloria Steinem.
Honey Bugs were delighted at the opportunity and learned much from the session. The C2 experience directly supports Honey Shine, Inc.’s mission to encourage the balance of mind, body and soul in girls and women by providing nurturing experiences that enlighten their paths and empower their futures. The synergy between Honey Shine’s mission and that of the ColorComm Conference served to provide an unforgettable experience for both mentors and mentees.
