After School Program

After School Programming is held three times a week, between September and May. There are 20 participants enrolled in each school. As part of a twelve-year long-standing partnership with Honey Shine, the Barry University CARE Center offers mental health counseling services, facilitation, time, staff, and expertise to Honey Shine participants (children) and families. Additionally, Barry University CARE Center provides the Alonzo and Tracy Mourning High School with the CHAMPS Program, free of cost!

For virtual learning, hours will be reduced and the focus will be on Social-Emotional Learning to ensure girls have safe and healthy outlets. During the 2019-2020 school year, the high school after-school programs increased by 50%.

S.E.L.F. Enrichment in after School includes:

S – STEM Mondays: Honey bugs participate in engaging hands-on STEM sessions to include lip balm creation, ice cream making and robotics.

E – Empowerment Tuesdays: Honey bugs engage in character development, group mentoring sessions and are visited by guest speakers that expose them to career opportunities and encourage them to shine.

– Literacy Wednesdays: Honey Bugs lose themselves in a good book during Honey Shine and write about their experience in their journals.

F – Fitness Thursdays: Honey Bugs participate in yoga, Zumba and jump rope challenges.
