25 Jul Career Ready and Confident
At OYC Miami, we’re not just preparing young people for the future—we’re giving them the tools to lead it. Through our Summer Youth Internship Program, teens are gaining critical skills, real-world exposure, and the confidence to show up as their best selves in professional spaces.
As part of our commitment to career readiness under our Economic Sustainability pillar, interns participated in multi-day professional development sessions covering everything from communication and emotional intelligence to time management, business etiquette, and digital branding. They learned how to build LinkedIn profiles, master their handshake, navigate professional settings, and present themselves with confidence—because preparation builds confidence, and presentation opens doors.
Thanks to our incredible partners and guest speakers, our youth received hands-on guidance, real-world advice, and an inspiring boost to launch their summer journey:
- The Miami-Dade Trial Lawyers Association led multiple sessions on communication, professionalism, and career growth.
- Jackie Vernon-Thompson of From the Inside Out School of Etiquette delivered dynamic workshops on business etiquette and professional presentation.
- Ed Ponder and the Future Leaders of Hospitality and Tourism offered valuable insights into customer service and hospitality career pathways.
- Author and speaker Jefferson Noel inspired our interns with a powerful session on emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
We also hosted mock interviews and Dress for Success workshops as part of our Summer Jobs Connect experience, giving students the opportunity to practice and refine the skills they’ll need to excel in professional environments.
From sharpening their resumes to stepping into rooms with poise and purpose, our interns are preparing for a summer filled with hands-on learning, exposure, and growth. Here’s to a season of confidence, connection, and career readiness! 🌟💼
